Incorporated in 1992, NSE was recognized as a stock exchange by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in April 1993, commenced operations in 1994, and has been consistently ranked as the largest stock exchange in India in terms of total and average daily turnover for equity shares since 1995 (based on SEBI data). It is the largest derivatives exchange globally in terms of the number of contracts traded.
